Female Leadership to be inspired by and emulate

Writer: ECHO Action AdminECHO Action Admin

This woman will inspire many First Nations people and women. She radiates powerful, positive energy. What a beautiful celebration of her next path in life.

A video from HuffPost Canada showing this ceremony says, "Drummers and singers welcomed the First Aboriginal Woman elected to B.C.'s Legislature. The NDP's Melanie Mark won a byelection in Vancouver-Mount Pleasant. She is of Cree, Niga'a, Gitxsan and Ojibway descent. Mark wore her grandmother's traditional button blanket for the swearing-in ceremony. "Here we are making history", she said.

The 40 year old grew up Vancouver's rough Downtown Eastside. Her mother was an alcoholic and her dad died of an overdose. She lived in 30 different homes. Her siblings were in foster care. She became a child advocate.

Mark credits "warrior strength" for getting her through it all."
