Kinder Morgan's pipeline maps show where they're heading & how Keene plays into the plan

Writer's picture: ECHO Action AdminECHO Action Admin

The decision to approve a gas plant in Keene impacts all of us. There are health, safety, climate and economic risks involved.

The Monadnock Region needs a community forum. There is a wealth of information to be shared, health and safety issues to be considered, and alternatives to be reviewed.

The maps and information below were shared with us by Stop NY Fracked Gas Pipeline who also have serious concerns about the impact of the Keene gas plant. Each decision that brings us all closer to a pipeline from PA to CAN impacts people near and far. It's not just a local issue. These choices, and they are choices, put ourselves and others at risk.

Keene is a key piece in making NH a carbon corridor to Canada. Review the interactive maps and consider where Kinder Morgan is planning to go and how Keene plays into this plan.

If the information here is not enough to convince you, consider watching this video about the health risks of living near a compressor station. You'll find more videos on our website.

TENNESSEE GAS / KINDER MORGAN CAPACITY EXPANSION

On May 23, 2017, Tennessee Gas (Kinder Morgan) posted a new notice of Open Season for bids for further expansion of its existing pipeline system. So far there are no clear system expansion details, maps or specifications, these most likely being dependent on what contracts they obtain from this Open Season. The proposal casts a wide net of possibilities, citing the existing 200 Line in Zones 5 & 6 (New York & New England – running from western to southern to eastern MA), capacity connection to the Maritimes and Northeast pipeline, and the possibility of additional compression and new pipeline.

POSSIBLE INFLUENCING FACTORS

There are several gas utility projects & issues that we have been monitoring that may possibly have influence over this Open Bid, though there currently don’t appear to be directly connecting contracts or communications at this time.

Berkshire Gas Moratorium, MA Berkshire Gas is still imposing a moratorium on any new or expanded gas hook-ups in the Pioneer Valley, citing system constraint and offering only a 19-mile 12″ distribution main as a solution, having not been able to draw from the now cancelled NED project.

Liberty Utilities, NH Conversion of Keene’s air-propane system to natural gas

Vernon, VT Renewed interest in electric generation development on the VT Yankee nuclear plant site, this time calling for a mix of sources including solar, wind, hydro, battery back-up and possible small-scale gas

LIST OF THE HARMED

Using gas, creating the need for pipelines makes us complicit in the poisoning of water, air, wildlife, CHILDREN & ADULTS in the fracking fields where they suffer from disease and illness. They cannot get up and move. Who will buy their homes?
