TO CONTINUE LEADING THE WAY ON CLIMATE ACTION

While the steps may be small, any movement on climate is significant and of value. For the sake of every life on this planet, we must work together, understanding the science and acting on climate. We cannot wait. Climate is not a partisan issue. Let's work together. ‪#‎ClimateCrisis‬ ‪#‎ActOnClimate‬"

"As we conserve land for future generations, we also have to ensure we're protecting our climate. Clean air is essential to our quality of life, and we know that air pollution doesn't stop at state borders. When I served as Attorney General, I joined lawsuits to protect New Hampshire from pollution from Midwestern coal-fired power plants and to set strict federal controls for toxic mercury emissions.

In the Senate, I've crossed party lines to oppose efforts to roll back EPA's Cross-State Air Pollution rule, which protects New Hampshire and other "downwind" states from pollution from out-of-state power plants. I also voted against a measure that would weaken national Mercury and Air Toxic Standards (MATS) for power plants, which aim to reduce toxic air pollutants like mercury, arsenic, and metals.

We can't stop there. Climate change poses a serious threat to our future, and I believe we must take action today to protect our environment. That's why I support the EPA's Clean Power Plan to reduce carbon emissions through clean energy solutions. New Hampshire has been at the forefront of efforts to reduce emissions and is already well on its way to meeting the goals of the Clean Power Plan through positive steps it has already taken as part of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative. It is important we make an effort now to protect our environment to ensure we're leaving behind a better home for our children and grandchildren.

I've also been working across the aisle on ways to preemptively care for our environment, like promoting energy efficiency. In 2015, as part of an energy efficiency bill co-authored by Sen. Shaheen, legislation I introduced with Sen. Bennet from Colorado was signed into law by the president. Our bipartisan, no-cost bill, known as the Better Buildings Act, creates a voluntary "Tenant Star" certification to recognize commercial tenants who are committed to operating energy-efficient spaces.

Protecting the natural beauty of our state is not a Republican or Democrat issue - we have a long, bipartisan tradition in New Hampshire of working to advance common sense, balanced environmental regulations. On Earth Day and every day, I will continue my efforts to preserve and protect our environment and treasured outdoor spaces for future generations."
