While ECHO Action is in Washington, DC at the U.S. Capitol with other organizations on July 20th to tell Congress and the Senate, NO FERC QUORUM, we need YOU to do the same from home!
Right now, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has only commissioner and it's holding up pipeline permits. For pipeline opponents, this is a grand opportunity. We want to encourage legislators to avoid approving new FERC commissioners.
Fossil Fuel CEOs have said that if FERC is not functional by the August Congressional break, they will have to halt pipelines. Nexxus, Atlantic Coast and PennEast may all be on the chopping block. Well, you know how we'd feel about that - dominoes, begin to tumble!
We will join many other organizations in delivering our letter to Congress outlining the reforms that are needed to make significant differences to FERC. The lack of a quorum for FERC (there is only one commissioner out of five) is a very real threat to the fossil fuel pushers. Anything you can do to help? You betcha.
On July 20th we will personally deliver our letter to Congress and parade through the Senate buildings with our signs throughout the day in a visible show of solidarity from East Coast and Midwestern communities abused and threatened by FERC. We have appointments to meet with many members of Congress and New Hampshire's Annie Kuster is one of them.
You know how real the threat is. You were there. They're so sneaky, you may not realize we're still under threat as Liberty Utilities bolsters gas contracts that could make the Granite State a comfy place to blast a pipeline through.
Next Thursday, we'll be there in person representing New Hampshire, NED pipeline opponents and those who want to see Keene stay green and not be the site of a gas plant that could sprawl to industrial proportions, choking the Monadnock Region, but we need you too.
