Dear members of the House Finance Committee,
I understand that you are voting on the amended HB 559 on February 21st. Please vote yes to use the funds for energy efficiency programs. This is the right thing to do for the Granite Staters and the right thing to do to reduce the related air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.

🔸LETTER 2
Dear members of the Senate Energy Committee,
HB 114 reduces our solar goal from 15% (already a very low bar) down to about 6% by 2025- that's shocking!
This is not in the best interest of NH residents for the following reasons:
1. Economics and diversity of energy sources. As I am sure you know, right now, NH relies on natural gas for about 60% of its electricity production. It is not wise to rely on one source for that much. If the price were to rise a great deal, we all suffer and pay the additional prices. If there were to be a supply problem (such as a pipeline explosion) then we all suffer from the decreased supply.
2. Solar is largely local. Solar farms such as the one proposed on in Hinsdale, or individual rooftop solar installations are in NH. That means we do not have to worry about importing the energy from other states or countries.
3. Solar is booming and providing a lot of local jobs. We have no coal mines in NH. nor do we have any oil or natural gas wells. but we do have proposed solar farms and individual solar installations.
4. Solar does NOT contribute to air pollution. I am sure you are aware that natural (fracked) gas frequently has methane leaks that can not be seen or smelled. In addition to methane leaks, the compressor and metering stations needed to push the gas along the pipelines often have "blowdowns", which release a toxic mix of gases into our atmosphere, the air we all share and breathe.

BACKGROUND, LETTER 1
Under RGGI, energy producers are supposed to reduce their output of greenhouse gasses every year and contribute to energy efficiency programs (insulation, sealing, LEDs and CFLs), which reduce electrical consumption and fossil fuel use.
A few years back the legislature voted to rebate the money rather than put it to good use supporting energy efficiency.
In a surprise move the House Finance Committee voted to reverse and early policy and use the money for energy efficiency again. They will take a final vote on the amended bill (HB559) on 2/21/18.

BACKGROUND, LETTER 2
NH has been moving slowly towards greater use of renewables.
We know that doing this faster how we do away with fossil fuels and dangerous pipelines that carry them.
In move we were not impressed by, the House voted to reduce the renewables goal of 15% solar by 2025 (already a low bar!) to a shocking 6%!!!
The bill (HB114) passed by only 3 votes. It now goes to the Senate Energy Committee.
